Scope of the Project

Compassion is a key value in many of the world’s religions.  Since the importance of compassion is shared by many religious groups, it is a point for interreligious dialog as well as a springboard for common social justice activities.  In this dissertation I will look at compassion generally and then compare the expression of compassion in Christianity and Buddhism. In addition, I will discuss the role that compassion plays in inter-religious dialog and some of the practical consequences of this key shared value in interfaith social justice projects.

Conclusion

Project on Compassion

This is the first post on my new project on Compassion in Buddhism and Christianity; the way that Buddhist and Christian individuals and groups manifest compassion in their everyday lives and work; the way that scientific studies of Compassion, like the studies that proceeded these on Mindfulness, aid in accepting compassion; the develop of programs in the US to cultivate compassion similar to MBSR programs; and the way that twenty-first century compassion is being embedded in American culture.
